1. Do a Google search for "web directory promotion". Submit your blog to one paid site and a few free ones. This will increase your traffic because it adds backlinks to your blog. This will help you get a higher search engine ranking
2. Find blogs with similar content to yours and place relevant comments along with a link to your blog. This will drive targeted traffic to your blog. You could even leave a comment to this article with a link to your site to get a free backlink to your site.
3. Create a Blogroll link exchange. Add a few links to other blogs and ask those blog owners to do the same. This will increase your exposure plus add a few backlinks to your blog.
4. Find a few forums that cover similar topics to your blog and create useful posts within the forum. Remember to add a link to your blog within the signature box.
5. Give your readers the option to use social bookmarking tools to bookmark your blog. These are a small set of links that readers can use to share your blog with others. You can find a good tool for this at addthis.com
If you take the time to implement these 5 tips you will see a large increase in the number of visitors. If you use your blog as a source of income you will not only see an increase of traffic you will also see an increase in revenue.

How to Build a Good blog, Think the habits

Here's a list of 15 things to keep in mind when you're writing and posting on your blog. These are mostly editing and formatting habits, with some basic mind set principles.
1. Be really clear about why you’re blogging, who your ideal reader is, and what your core message and/or theme is.
2. Write with the reader in mind: what’s in it for them?
3. Write declarative sentences: short and to the point, right off the bat. No starting with: “I was thinking the other day about…” or “Summer’s almost over and…”
4. Write less. Omit all unnecessary words. (Hint: this requires you actually read your post before you publish!)
5. Write good headlines, using your strategic keywords (the ones you’ve researched and
know will pull in the readers you’re looking for). Put keywords first if you can.
6. Write a good first paragraph using your keywords. Tell readers what your point is right away.
7. Keep paragraphs short, only one or two sentences at most, then break. White space is your friend.
8. Use subtitles to make your posts easily scannable.
9. Break your post up after 2-3 paragraphs using the Extended Post feature, so that readers are asked to click here to continue reading.
10. Don’t take yourself too seriously; keep a sense of humor but be cautious about trying to be funny; people read things the wrong way.
11. Write like readers were paying you and their subscription is about to expire.
12. Avoid business jargon, empty phrases, and clichés that are too cliché.
13. Use bulleted points and lists as often as possible.
14. Don’t be afraid to voice your opinions
15. Always ask readers for their opinions, their experiences, their input.
